Utrecht Art Supplies has put together a wonderful demonstration that will focus on sketching while on location. It will take place Saturday, May 15th from 1pm to 2:30pm. If you are interested in travel drawing and painting, or simply using sketching as a means of visual journaling, this event is for you! Capture your spring and summer travels with a personalized hand. Local Artist, Kitty Dyble Thompson will demonstrate examples of drawing, watercolor rendering, the use of collage and binding your own sketches into a small format book. She will also touch upon “how to” create your own traveling art studio. Please call or stop in the store to get your name on the registration list.  Space is limited and filling up fast! Approaches to Portraiture

The portrait is a constant throughout the history of art, dating back thousands of years and taking many forms; drawings, paintings, sculpture and eventually, photography. Artists created portraits for royalty and common folk alike, often using it as a way to make a living. Many artists drew and painted self-portraits as a way of exercising their skills and trying new techniques.

There are many approaches to take when creating a portrait; in the choice or application of the medium or in the pose and/or environment of the subject. A portrait can be a meticulous and faithful reproduction, a loose sketch or even a caricature. The important thing is to capture some sense of the subject’s character or personality.

Local Artist Demonstration by Kasia Drake-Hames on Wycinanki, Polish paper cutting. Her demonstration will be at our store THIS Saturday, March 13th from 1pm to 2pm. Kasia will be demonstrating the traditional Polish art form of Wycinanki (paper-cutting. She will demonstrate how to do a few different designs, and will also be giving some background history on the art form itself. It will be fun and informational for all ages! To help celebrate Christmas in the Ward and the tree lighting ceremony that will be taking place in Catalano Square on December 4th and 5th, we have put together some fun and free events in our store!

Friday, December 4th we will be open late, stop in to try block printing and stamping on your own christmas greeting cards! No cost to participate and no registration required.

December 5th we will be having a tie dye demonstration and workshop from 11 am to noon. Fun for all ages! no cost to participate, please register in advance by stopping in the store or calling ahead.
